四十二字门《佛学大辞典》
(术语)此为华严般若二经所说,是观字义之一种法门也。与悉昙之摩多体文无何等关系。惟据智度论之说,谓以此四十二字为一切字之根本,除之则无他文字,是殆为别一流之悉昙也。华严经七十六入法界品善知众艺童子告善财童子以此四十二字,始于阿字,终于佗字。又唐不空新译此入法界品之四十二字门,题曰四十二门观,始于阿字,终于荼字。大要与前无异。般若经四念处品说此四十二字门,亦以阿字为始,荼字为终。其所说之法门虽异,然四十二字字音之布列,全与华严同。然则当时果行如是一流之悉昙也。智度论四十七曰:“四十二字是一切字根本,因字有语,因语有名,因名有义。菩萨若闻字,因字乃至能了其义,初阿后荼,字有四十。(中略)荼外更无字,若有者是四十二字枝派。”天台以此四十二字配于圆教之四十二位。

(名数)三贤十圣加等觉妙觉之二圣者。菩萨璎珞本业经上曰:“为菩萨者,(中略)必谛受学四十二贤圣名门决定多义。”本经举梵汉之名。见“四十二位”条。
四十位《佛学大辞典》
(术语)梵网经上说菩萨之阶乘四十位,分为四位:第一、十发趣。谓大乘之行人至十住初闻妙理,而发趣于佛地,故名发趣。一舍心、二戒心、三忍心、四进心、五定心、六慧心、七愿心、八护心、九喜心、十顶心也。此十者,前八心为璎珞所说十信中之八心,后二心为同经所说十住心之初后二心(见“五十二位”)。第二、十长养。次入十行增修善根,故名长养。一慈心、二悲心、三喜心、四舍心、五施心、六好语心、七益心、八同心、九定心、十慧心也。此十者,如其次第,即四无量、四摄法及止观之二者也。第三、十金刚。次入十回向之位坚修善根,故名金刚。一信心、二念心、三回向心、四达心(谓通达法性也)、五直心、六不退心、七大乘心、八无相心、九慧心、十不坏心也。第四、十地。地者,所依之义。入菩萨位,所依转胜,故名十地。见“十地”条。
四十余年未显真实《佛学大辞典》
(术语)无量义经曰:“善男子!我先菩提道场树下端坐六年,得成阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,以佛眼观一切诸法不可宣说,所以者何?知诸众生性欲不同。性欲不同,种种说法。种种说法,以方便力。四十余年未显真实,是故众生得道差别,不得疾成无上菩提。”无量义经为法华之开经,谓法华以前未显真实也。真实者,非说二乘作佛(是迹门法华),如来久成(是本门法华),非言尔前所说为方便假说,尔前所说之圆教与法华之圆教圆体无殊也。法华玄义五曰:“成道已来,四十余年未显真实,法华始显真实。相传云:佛年七十二岁说法华经。”止观辅行六曰:“遍寻法华已前诸教,实无二乘作佛之文,及明如来久成之说,故知并由带方便故。”
