(界名)Uttarakuru,又作郁多罗鸠娄、郁多罗拘楼、郁多罗鸠留、郁怛罗究琉、郁怛罗越、郁单越、郁单曰、殟怛罗句嚧、殟怛罗矩噜、北拘卢、拘卢等。四大洲中,北方之大洲名。玄应音义十二曰:“郁单越或言郁怛罗越,或言郁多罗拘楼,或言郁多罗鸠留,正言郁怛罗究琉,此译言高上作,谓高上于余方也。亦言胜,鸠琉此云作,亦云姓也。不详何义立名。”同十八曰:“郁单曰,或言郁怛罗越。”同二十四曰:“俱卢洲此云上胜,亦云胜生。旧经中作郁单越。”华严疏钞十三上曰:“郁单越,此云胜生。以定寿千岁衣食自然故。”起世因本经二曰:“有何因缘,说彼名曰郁多罗究留洲?诸此丘,其郁多罗究留洲,于四天下,比余三洲,最上最妙最胜彼,故说郁多罗究留洲。郁多罗究留洲,隋言上作。”慧苑音义上曰:“郁单越。具正云:殟怛罗句嚧。言殟怛罗者。此云上也,胜也。句嚧所作也。谓彼洲人,于所作事,皆无我所,胜余三洲故也。”西域记一曰:“北拘卢洲,旧曰郁单越,又曰鸠楼,讹也。”慧琳音义一曰:“殟怛罗矩嚧,此译为高胜。常受乐胜故为名。古郁单越Uttravatti,或郁拘楼。”
