(地名)梵名Anurādhapura,锡兰之古都。在岛之北部。此地自佛教初传以来至西历第八世纪末,以为锡兰岛之首府,故关于佛教之遗物存者不少。塔园,无畏山塔,逝多林园Jetavanārāma及铜宫,其最著者也。其中以塔园为最古。此地东方有眉沙迦山者,阿育王之子摩哂陀初在此地教化国王及其岛人之所也。见善见律二。
阿《佛学大辞典》
(术语)ā长声。安,阿,阿阿,安,庵,頞,悉昙十二母韵之一。五十字门之一。阿之转生。于阿字附修行之点者。金刚顶经字母品曰:“阿(引去)字门,一切法寂静故。”文殊问经曰:“称阿字时,是远离我声,”大庄严经曰:“唱长阿字时,出自利利他声。”大日经疏十四曰:“若见长阿字,当知修如来行。”同十曰:“长声第二字,是金刚三昧。”一切法寂静者由阿练若āraṇya释之,远离我者由Atman(我)释之。又由ākāṣa,ārya释为空,圣者。【阿】(术语)a悉昙十二母韵最初之韵。五十字门之一。又作遏,哀,曷,安,庵,頞,恶。此音为本生一切之梵语,此字为元,生一切之梵字也。大日经疏七曰:“阿字是一切法教之本,凡最初开口之音,皆有阿声。若离阿声,则无一切言说,故为众声之母。”同十二曰:“阿字为一切字之种子。”理趣释曰:“阿字菩提心义,为一切字之先。”译曰无、非、不。日本弘法金刚顶经开题曰:“阿名无、不、非。”

阿世耶《佛学大辞典》
(术语)āśaya,译曰意乐。意之爱欲也,又种子也。玄应音义二十三曰:“阿世耶此云意乐,亦云种子。”显扬圣教论三曰:“贪阿世耶,瞋阿世耶,痴阿世耶。”
