(术语)梵语阿他Artha,又作阿阤,译曰义。道理,意味也。华玄略述一本曰:“义者所以也。”净影维摩义记四曰:“义别有三:一对相显实,所以名义。二对体用显义用名义。三对恶论善义利名义。”

(人名)唐京兆大荐福寺义净三藏,咸亨二年,年三十七、发足取路南海趣印度,经二十五年,经三十余国,天后嗣圣元年,还洛阳,天后亲迎于上东门外,置所齎梵本于佛授记寺。初与于阗之实叉难陀共译华严经,后于长安福先寺及雍京西明寺自译最胜王经等二十部。和帝神龙元年,于洛阳内道场译孔雀王经,又于大先福寺译庄严王经。二年随驾归雍京。后置翻经院于大荐福寺,使居之。三年入内与翻经沙门九旬安居。其后所译多多,都出五十六部二百三十卷,别出南海寄归内法传,西域求法高僧传等五部九卷,其他杂着颇多。净虽遍译藏,然偏考律部,先天二年寿七十九寂。见宋高僧传一。
义利《佛学大辞典》
(术语)义与利相应,义必有利,故曰义利。佛地经论一曰:“义利。现益名义,当益名利。”大日经疏七曰:“于一一真言,皆具能成就一切义利。”

(譬喻)依文生义,如依食生味。盖喻义为食味也。又义者言义,味者趣意,即言与意也。行事钞中二曰:“义味俱解。”资持记中二之一曰:“义谓言义,味即意趣。”
义和《佛学大辞典》
(人名)乡贯未详。住平江能仁寺,唱华严圆融念佛法门。南宋干道元年,于临安慧因院撰华严念佛三昧无尽灯一卷。尝赐圆澄法师之号。年寿并缺。见乐邦文类,佛祖统纪等。

(人名)慈恩大师能解妙义,称曰义天。宋高僧传七曰:“有大乘基,为其高足,不缘宿习,多见生知,谓之义天。”

又十住等之菩萨,名为义天,四天之一。涅槃经二十二曰:“义天者,十住菩萨摩诃萨等。以何义故?十住菩萨名为义天,以能善解诸法义故。云何为义?见一切法是空义故。”

又高丽国仁孝王第四子,名义天,出家,封佑世僧统,元佑初,入中华求法,上表哲宗请传贤首宗教,归国流通,敕就钱唐慧因寺净源受法。又就天竺寺慈辨受天台教观,谒灵芝大智学律藏,就圆照宗本禅师问宗旨之大义。归国弘通华严。见释门正统八。稽古略四。

义天目录《佛学大辞典》
(书名)本名新编诸宗教藏总录,二卷,海东传华严大教沙门义天着。为目次诸家之章疏者。是章疏目录之嚆矢。自序曰:“开元中,初有大法师,厥号智升。刊落讹谬,删简重复,总为一书,曰开元释教录。凡二十卷,最为精要。议者以为经法之谱,无出升之右矣。住持遗教,莫大焉。予掌穷谓(按穷谓二字,疑原本有误,无从考正,今仍之),经论虽备,而章疏或废,则流衍无由矣。辄效升公护法之志,搜访教迹,以为己任。孜孜不舍,仅二十载于玆矣。今以所得新旧制撰诸宗义章,不敢私秘,叙而出之,后有所得。亦欲随而录之,脱或将来编次函帙,与三藏正文,垂之无穷,则吾愿毕矣。
义存《佛学大辞典》
(人名)唐福州雪峰广福院义存。泉州南安人。十七落发,遇德山宣鉴而契悟。咸通年中,登闽之象骨山雪峰创院,徒众翕然。僖宗赐号真觉大师。师住闽州四十余年,学者冬夏千五百不减。梁开平二年,寿八十七寂。见宋高僧传十二,传灯录十六。
义学《佛学大辞典》
(杂语)谓如俱舍唯识等建立名数,论因果阶级,法相跼蹐文字间之学问也。释氏稽古略四所谓“两街止是南山律部。慈恩贤首之疏钞,义学而已。士大夫聪明超轶者,皆厌闻名相因果。”之类是也。
义寂《佛学大辞典》
(人名)新罗国人。年代事迹未详。或云玄奘门人,与元晓等同时出。所著颇多。有无量寿经疏三卷,观经纲要,涅槃经总目二卷,大乘义林章十二卷等二十余种。见义天教藏总录,东域传灯目录等。

又宋天台山螺溪传教院义寂,字常照,温州永嘉人。受具已,往会稽学南山律钞,至天台山研究止观,先是天台教迹,尽为散逸,金华古藏中,但得净名疏而已。后告韶禅师派人至日本购获仅足。于佛陇道场国清寺相继讲训。许王钱氏私署净光大师,赐紫方袍。及兴螺溪道场,四方学侣云集。雍熙四年寿六十九寂。着止观义例等。自智者捐世,至六代传法湛然后,二百余岁,受其遗寄,最能荷负。见宋高僧传七。
