(术语)恃自己之盛事而心高傲也。唯识论六曰:“云何为憍?于自盛事,深生染着,醉傲为性。”
憍坑《佛学大辞典》
(术语)憍慢之深坑。智度论十八曰:“胜者堕憍坑,负者坠忧狱。”
憍奢耶《佛学大辞典》
(衣服)Kāuśeya,又作憍舍耶,憍尸,高世耶。绢衣名。取野蚕茧之丝所作之衣。西域记二曰:“憍奢耶者,野蚕丝也。”玄应音义一曰:“憍奢耶,此译云虫衣,谓以野蚕丝线作衣也。应云俱舍,此云藏,谓蚕藏在茧中,此即野蚕也。”慧琳音义二十五曰:“憍奢耶,五分律云:野蚕所作绵,捻织为衣。”行事钞中之二曰:“憍奢耶者,丝中微者,蚕口初出名忽。”七佛经作“憍尸衣。”参照“高世耶”条。

憍尸迦《佛学大辞典》
(天名)Kausika,又曰憍支迦。帝释之姓。杂阿含经四十曰:“比丘复白佛言:世尊何因何缘,释提桓因复名憍尸迦?佛告比丘:彼释提桓因,本为人时,为憍尸族姓。以是因缘故,彼释提桓因,复名憍尸迦。”智度论五十六曰:“昔摩诃陀国中,有婆罗门,名摩诃,姓憍尸迦,有福德大智慧。知友三十三人,共修福德。命终皆生须弥山顶第二天上。摩伽婆罗门为天主,三十二人为辅臣。以三十三人故,名为三十三天。唤其本姓,故言憍尸迦。”法华玄赞二曰:“过去字憍尸迦,此云玺儿,名阿摩揭陀,此云无害毒,即摩揭陀国,过去帝释修因之处,用为国名。”
憍慢《佛学大辞典》
(术语)烦恼名。五上分结之一。自高凌物之心也。大乘义章五末曰:“自举凌物,称曰憍慢。”俱舍论四曰:“慢对他心举,憍由染自法,心高无所顾。”大集经二十曰:“摧憍慢山,拔生死树。”
憍慢不请法戒《佛学大辞典》
(术语)四十八轻戒之第二十二。诫未有所解,憍慢不逊,恃自己之智力或地位权势财力等,反轻侮精通一切经律学德兼优之师家,不谘受法者。是为制乖于传化之益之戒。通于大小二乘,道俗七众。但小乘不请于五夏之内,即为得罪,大乘则不问其时限。此虽与第六不供给请法相似,然彼制懈怠不请,此在诫憍慢不请,制意不同也。法藏太贤皆谓为慢人轻法戒。今依天台。

(人名)Gautamī,巴Gotamī,新称乔答弥。旧称憍昙弥,俱昙弥。瞿昙姓之女声。佛姨母摩诃波阇波提之称。嘉祥法华疏九曰:“憍昙是姓,翻为泥土,弥者女也。”慧琳音义二十五曰:“弥者是女声,为是佛姨母,故以女声呼之也。”法华玄赞九曰:“梵云乔答摩,此云日炙种,亦云甘蔗种。男声中呼佛,是释迦姓之本望也,今云乔答弥。于女声中,呼日炙甘蔗种,是佛母故以弥声呼,讹云憍昙弥。”文句二上曰:“波阇波提,此翻大爱道,亦云憍昙弥,此翻众主。”

(故事)佛母生佛后,七日而命终。姨母代养之。因果经一曰:“太子既生,始满七日,其母命终。(中略)尔时姨母摩诃波阇波提,乳养太子,如母无异。”佛本行集经十一姨母养育品曰:“时净饭王,见其摩耶国大夫人命终之后,即便唤召诸释种亲年德长者,皆令云集,而告之言:汝等眷属,并是国亲,今是童子,婴孩失母。乳哺之寄,将付嘱谁。(中略)净饭王,即将太子,付嘱姨母摩诃波阇波提,以是太子亲姨母故。而告之言:善来夫人,如是童子,应当养育,善须护持,应令增长,依时澡浴。”大爱道般泥洹经曰:“阿难言:我自念,摩诃卑耶和题俱昙弥,于佛有阜恩。佛母寿终时,摩诃卑耶和题俱昙弥,乳养长大佛。”

(人名)Gavāṁpati,又作憍梵钵提,迦梵波提,笈房钵底。比丘名。译曰牛呞,牛王,牛相等。解律第一。法华文句二上曰:“憍梵波提,此翻牛呞,无量寿称牛王,增一云牛迹。昔五百世,曾为牛王。牛若食后恒事虚哨,余报未夷,唼唼常嚼,时人称为牛呞。”法华玄赞一曰:“梵云笈房钵底,此云牛相。憍梵波提,讹也。过去因摘一茎禾数颗坠地,五百生中作牛偿他。今虽人身,尚作牛蹄牛呞之相,因号为牛相比丘。”

(传说)智度论二曰:“佛既入灭,摩诃迦叶欲结集三藏,议言谁能结集毗尼法藏者?长老阿泥卢豆言:舍利弗有好弟子,名憍梵波提,能知毗尼法藏。今在天上尼利沙树园中住,可遣使请来。迦叶便遣下座比丘,召憍梵波提。比丘至天上,传迦叶意。憍梵波提语比丘言:召我日佛灭度耶?比丘言实如所言:大师佛已灭度。憍梵波提言:佛灭度大疾,世间眼灭,能逐佛转法轮,将我和上舍利弗,今在何所?答曰:先入涅槃。憍梵波提言大师法将,各自别离,当奈何?摩诃目犍连今在何处?比丘言是亦灭度。憍梵波提言佛法欲散,大人过去,众生可怜。(中略)我失离欲大师,于是尸利沙树园中住,亦何所为?我和上大师,皆已灭度,我今不能复下阎浮提,住此入涅槃。说是言已,入禅定中,踊在虚空,身放光明,又出水火,手摩日月,现种种神变。自心出火烧身,身中出水,四道流下,至大迦叶所。水中有声,说此偈言:憍梵波提稽首礼,妙众第一大德僧。闻佛灭度我随去,如大象去象子随。”此偈名水说偈(一本有四偈误)。
