应病与药《俗语佛源》
《维摩诘经·佛国品》谓:“应病与药,令得服行。”众生有“四大不调病”,有“业报病”。“四大不调病”是由一类众生共造的业力所促成的,如“地大不调,举身沉重;水大不调,举身臃肿”(《诸经要集》卷二十)等,须对症下药,进行治疗。“业报病”是由众生自己的业力造成的,程度较重,除对症下药外,还要忏悔业障,才可望减轻。以上所说的是“应病与药”的一般意义。从广义上说,众生一切形形色色的烦恼都是“病”。佛菩萨对机说法,用不同的法门去解决众生不同的烦恼,谓之“应病与药”。经中常说,众生有八万四千烦恼,佛有八万四千法门,即此意。《五灯会元》卷十载:文益禅师“调机顺物,斥滞磨昏。凡举诸三昧,或入室呈解,或叩激请益,皆应病与药。随根悟入者,不可胜纪”。“药”,梵语agada,意为“无病”。药到病除,故称“无病”。后多作“对症下药”。如宋·朱熹《朱子语类》卷四一:“克己复礼,便是捉得病根,对症下药。”意为针对具体情况解决问题。(李明权)
